HCMC waives land rental fees for Fulbright University Vietnam at the High-Tech Park (SHTP)

On Friday, On February 20, 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council officially passed a resolution to waive land rental fees for the Fulbright University Vietnam project at the High-Tech Park in Thu Duc City. According to Decision No. 5896, issued by the HCMC People’s Committee on December 19, 2024, Fulbright University Vietnam will be exempt from land rental fees for the entire lease period at Lot E4-2, D2 Street, within the High-Tech Park. To qualify for this exemption, the project must meet specific conditions, including investment in a priority area, operating as a non-profit institution, and ensuring that the waived rental fees are not factored into the cost of services provided to the public. The exemption will take effect from the date of the official land lease decision. Previously, on October 23, 2024, the HCMC High-Tech Park Management Board granted Fulbright a construction permit, allowing the university to commence key infrastructure development on its 15-hectare campus. The new campus is designed to meet the highest environmental standards and is student-centered, ensuring top-quality facilities for learners. The project is expected to be completed by Q4 2026. Dr. Scott Fritzen, President of Fulbright University Vietnam, emphasized the significance of this milestone: “Receiving the construction permit for Phase 1 is a major achievement for Fulbright University Vietnam. We are committed to developing a world-class higher education institution that not only addresses Vietnam’s demand for high-quality human resources but also contributes to building an advanced, dynamic, and sustainable education system.” The 2023 Joint Statement on the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership recognized Fulbright’s role as a regional center for public policy training. According to Thanh Niên, the land rental exemption and construction approval reflect strong support from the government and HCMC authorities. This decision underscores the importance of the Fulbright project in fostering educational collaboration and developing high-quality human resources for Vietnam.
